From the Pharmacist: Chicory Ginger Digestive Bitters

Chicory Ginger Digestive Bitters is one of our most popular products because it addresses the increasingly problematic issue of digestion.

Our demanding high speed life is heavy on sensory activities (driving, computing, telephone talking), which takes away from the "fire in the belly" of willpower and specifically digestion. This can lead to lack of appetite, indigestion, acid reflux, constipation, and a host of digestive problems that may leave us feeling weak and unmotivated.

The liver, gall bladder, stomach and intestines love bitter substances, feeling warmed and promoted. The following ingredients (substances) are used to fire up these organs: Gentian root (Gentiana lutea), milk thistle seed (Carduus marianus), chicory root (Cichorium intybus), Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), Ginger (Zingiberis), Calamus root (Acorus calamus), celandine root (Chelidonium majus), Turmeric (Curcuma longa), black pepper (Piper nigrum), and lime oil.

Bitter tastes cause the soul body to tighten up or contract into the life body, assisting our Ego in its proper function of utterly destroying all incoming foodstuffs, which are then rebuilt into our own human substance. When breakdown is insufficient, food energy courses through our body as a foreign power, causing unnecessary inflammation and inducing diseases, which then affect our consciousness.

Even if some of us would rather not deal with bitter experiences (like swallowing bitters straight and undiluted), our belly is grateful and rewards us with warmth and energy. Chicory Ginger Digestive Bitters should be taken before every meal, 5-10 drops diluted or undiluted. Also combines well with soda water and a twist of lemon or lime for serving in polite company!
